HISTORY America Maya Mission School

Established in 2003 by Brenda and Jorge Alfaro, the America Maya Foundation's first endeavor was to contribute to the opening of the American Maya Preschool in Playa del Carmen. For the first time in their lives, Mayan children from age 2 ½ to 9 years old were given a formal educational opportunity, where they learned and developed their minds. It was a highly successful year, both for the children and their parents; however, the America Maya Preschool was forced to close in July 2004 due to an increase in rent for the school's location.

The work of the America Maya Foundation continues today through a vitamin and health care program, in assisting other schools and charities in the area, and in providing economic development opportunities to families. Past donations have built a children's playground and provided health and dental care to families.
